During my presearch process I came to the conclusion that my first topic (cosmetic surgery fraud) did not have a lot of information on it. I reworded my keywords and I learned that there was more information on the dangers of plastic surgery in general oppose cosmetic surgery fraud. When I first searched for a book to fit my new topic I did not get any feedback, but after rewording my topic so that it was not as specific I was able to find a book in print. The book that I was able to find is Reshaping the female body: the dilemma of cosmetic surgery call number: RD119 D385 1195.

The process that we use in class is very different to what I am accustoming to doing during research. I am the type of person that puts the whole entire question into the search engine. I never knew about the Boolean operators until this class and I have learned that they are a huge help. I am not really confused about anything that we are learning as of now. I also feel though  we are on a good track on learning information. 

special collections

I loved the special collections presentation. I fell that it is really cool that Carrollton still has remains from several decades ago. Before this presentation or this class I was completely in the dark about special collections. I always know there was something down stairs in the library but I wasn't exactly sure what it was. I don’t really think that I will be able to utilize this for any of my classes. Unfortunately I no longer take history classes because I have already taken my required amount and my research topic is more of a current issue.

Originally I wanted to do my research on the dangers of fake cosmetic surgeons, but as I searched I could hardly find any of the information that I needed. After seeing this I decide to take another route.  I am now doing my research on cosmetic surgery in general. I am a pre- med major so I try to stay current with new medical procedures and issues. Cosmetic procedures have become a very large party in our society so doing the reach would give a great incite as to what we our putting our self at risk for.   I tried looking for books but I was extremely unsuccessful do to the fact that it is in the medical field and things in the medical field or constantly changing. I did learn that I find more information when I use the search word “plastic surgery” then I did using “cosmetic surgery”.  A primary source I am looking for would have to a be from a patient first hand experiment as well a physician.

When doing my research on cosmetic surgeries gone wrong, l would like I would like to use popular sources as well as scholarly journals. When getting my information I would like to get my first hand experiences from popular sources. I would prefer getting my medical view of information from scholarly journals. The discipline that my research would fall under would be biology and sociology because of it medical side and also how it affects our society. I feel as though plastic surgeons, models, and also people between ages 18 to 60(not just limited to women but also men) would have an opinion on my topic.

My research

Last week I picked two topics of interest and they both were dealing with the impersonations of large companies. It was rather difficult deciding on which one I would like to do my research on but finial I picked one ….. fake cosmetic surgery clinic facilities. When I first started my search I just typed in black market cosmetic surgery seven hundred and eighty- two thousand sites popped up at this point I felt a little overwhelmed so I took another I direction. Instead of looking at the vast amount of site first I decide to look at the images to see what the effect is of getting none professional operations done. It was extremely disturbing from this point it gave me a better incite on what kind of things I wanted to know about these fake cosmetic surgeries or “cosmetic surgeries gone wrong”  I now had deeper questions who is fooled  by it the most ?What is being put in your body? How can this harm? When do you know that you are a part of a scam?

Topics of Interest

As we are learning in our 1101 library and academic research class it is quite simple to create a web site that looks extremely legitimate and professional. Not knowing the difference in the long wrong can be harmful to not only your pockets, your academics, but most importantly it can be dangerous as well hurtful to your physical health. For my research project I would like to research fraud modeling agencies or I would like to research unauthorized plastic surgeons. In today’s society there are tons of young aspiring female models that are always looking for work but they don’t always run into legitimate agencies. In their eyes the web site seems okay but in reality many of them are just a trap and a way for them to be easily targeted by the wrong crowd. If you were to type in plastic surgery gone wrong into a search engine thousands of pictures would pop up. Often times I wonder how couldn't these people not know this would happen this is the answer many of these “Plastic surgeons “are not doctors!!!!!  I picked these two things because I would like to see how easy it would be to fall into the same trap that many people fall into every day.
